Absolwent Wydziału Farmaceutycznego Akademii Medycznej w Warszawie. W 1994 r. uzyskał tytuł profesora nauk farmaceutycznych. Kierownik Zakładu Toksykologii i Oceny Ryzyka Narodowego Instytutu Zdrowia Publicznego – Państwowego Zakładu Higieny (PZH), 1995-2001 zastępca dyrektora PZH ds. Naukowych. W latach 2001-2006 dyrektor PZH. Od 2007 zastępca dyrektora Narodowego Instytutu Zdrowia Publicznego – Państwowego Zakładu Higieny (NIZP-PZH) ds. Zdrowia Środowiskowego.
Członek licznych międzynarodowych organizacji. W latach 2006-2012 członek Forum Doradczego Europejskiego Urzędu ds. Bezpieczeństwa Żywności (EFSA), od 2003 ekspert ds. pozostałości pestycydów w Komitecie ds. Łańcucha Żywnościowego DG SANCO Komisji Europejskiej.
Od 2004 zastępca przewodniczącego Komisji Farmakopei, a od 2011 Członek Komisji Farmakopei Polskiej. Był lub nadal jest Członkiem Rad Naukowych NIZP-PZH, Instytutu Przemysłu Organicznego, Narodowego Instytutu Leków, Wojskowego Instytutu Higieny i Epidemiologii i Instytutu Reumatologii. W latach 2002-2005 Koordynator na Polskę 5. Programu Ramowego UE INUENDO dot. wpływu skażeń środowiska na zdrowie reprodukcyjne, w 2007-2012 7. Programu Ramowego UE CLEAR dot. wpływu zmian klimatycznych i zanieczyszczeń środowiskowych na płodność. Promotor 6 doktoratów, ponad 250 publikacji naukowych w zakresie toksykologii środowiskowej i eksperymentalnej, oceny ryzyka, analityki pestycydów, bezpieczeństwa żywności i zdrowia publicznego o łącznym IF=128,3 i indeksie cytowań (H) według Web od Science = 17.
Odznaczony Krzyżem Kawalerskim Orderu Odrodzenia Polski.
A graduate of the Faculty of Pharmacy at the Medical University of Warsaw. In 1994 he was granted the title of profesor nauk farmaceutycznych (Professor of Pharmaceutical Sciences). Head of the Department of Toxicology and Risk Assessment at the National Institute of Public Health—National Institute of Hygiene (PZH), 1995–2001 Deputy Director for Scientific Affairs at PZH. Director of the National Institute of Hygiene in the years 2001–2006. Since 2007 he has been Deputy Diector for Enviromental Health at the National Institute of Public Health—National Institute of Hygiene (NIZP-PZH). A member of numerous international organisations. In the years 2006–2012 a member of the Advisory Forum of the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA), since 2003 an expert for pesticide residue in the Standing Committee on the Food Chain at DG SANCO at the European Commission. Since 2004 Deputy Chairman of the Pharmacopoeia Commission, since 2011 a Member of the Polish Pharmacopoeia Commission. He has been a Member of Scientific Councils at NIZP-PZH, the Institute of Industrial Organic Chemistry, the National Medicines Institute, the Military Institute of Hygiene and Epidemiology and the Institute of Rheumatology. In the years 2002–2005 the Coordinator for Poland of the 5th European Framework Programme INUENDO concerning the effects of environmental contamination on reproductive health, in the years 2007–2012 the Coordinator of the 7th Framework Programme concerning the effects of climate changes and pollution on fertility. Supervisor of 6 PhD dissertations, more than 250 scientific publications in the field of environmental and experimental toxicology, risk assessment, pesticide analytics, food safety and public health, with the total IF=128.3 and citation index (H) according to Web of Science = 17. Honoured with the King’s Cross of the Order of Polonia Restituta.
